TRUST IT Act – Establish New Rating System – Compare Health IT (EHR/EMR) Products

Home » Uncategorized » TRUST IT Act – Establish New Rating System – Compare Health IT (EHR/EMR) Products

According to a press release from Senator Whitehouse and Cassidy:

“U.S. Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) today introduced bipartisan legislation to strengthen accountability and improve transparency in health information technology (IT) systems.  The Transparent Ratings on Usability and Security to Transform Information Technology (TRUST IT) Act of 2015 would help ensure that certified health IT systems are performing as promised in the field, and establish a rating system that will enable consumers to compare different products based on that performance.”

Medscape website has a take on it – here.

I am sure a lot will be said and written in the coming days, but let me pose a couple of questions:

  1. 1. What technology products – software are government rated? I am not aware of any. Isn’t free market supposed to take care of these things?
  2. How do you prevent Rating systems from being rigged?

I am not convinced this would work.

What do you think? Let me know.
